Allied increasingly works alongside MOD military and civilian counterparts. Non-military members of the team need a quick reference for what stars, SO grades, and Civil Service grades mean — both to read incoming correspondence correctly and to pitch outreach at the right level.
The page is deliberately scoped to officers (1★–4★ and SO1–SO3) and the Civil Service grades commonly seen in MOD-facing work. Other Ranks (OR-1 to OR-9) are out of scope for the first pass; they can be added if a use case emerges.
The civilian–military equivalence table follows the "broader defence working" convention used inside MOD. The page flags this as working-level equivalence rather than formal seniority, because appointments and delegated authority routinely sit above or below grade.
